The Process of Building your Custom Bra
Congratulations on taking the first steps toward the comfort and freedom of a bra that fits you! This page describes the process of how we will build your bra, what you can expect from your bra maker, and what your bra maker expects from you.
Please note: All fittings are done in person at our studio in St. Stephen, New Brunswick, Canada, or at one of our pop-up fitting sessions with our retail collaborators. If you aren’t in our area, get in touch and we will direct you to a fellow bra maker!
Your journey to a great fitting bra generally consists of three steps: an initial consultation and fitting, a second fitting, and the final delivery.
Step 1: Booking an initial consultation
After you’ve spoken with your bra maker and determined that you want to proceed, you’ll book your first consultation. This visit can take up to an hour and it is important that it isn’t rushed. A consultation booking costs $50, which will be applied to the cost of your bra order; if you choose not to order a bra after the consultation, $25 of this fee will be refunded.
Your bra maker will speak with you at length about what your issues are with bras you currently own, your frustrations, and the features your ideal bra would have. She will also discuss with you your budget and provide you with costs on the type of bra you are ordering. Together, you will identify the features to include, fabrics, and other details and complete a form so that these expectations are clear.
You’ll then go through the fitting process. Your bra maker will use fitting bras to find the best possible fit for you, then identify any alterations and customizations that need to be made. She’ll use this to draft your custom-fitting pattern. Please note, you’re going to have to remove your top and bra in order to be properly fitted.
At the end of this consultation, you will need to pay a 50% deposit on the total cost of your order.
Step 2: Second Visit – Fitting
Your bra maker will build a bra for you based on the fitting information and your requested features from the first consultation. This fitting can take anywhere from 15 minutes to 1 hour, so again please ensure you’ve blocked off the time to avoid rushing! You will try on the bra and your bra maker will assess the fit and note any adjustments that need to be made. This is an exciting day!
Please note that adjustments do NOT include adding new features or customizations not already identified in the first fitting on your order form. If you’d like other features or customizations, the price will need to be adjusted accordingly.
At the end of this appointment, you will pay the remaining balance due on your order. Your bra maker will draft any adjustments and sew the final product.
Note: If there are a significant number of alterations needed, or significant style changes, you may require another fitting before the final product is made. This applies particularly to complicated designs or more complex fitting needs.
The Final Step: The Big Reveal! Your Custom Bra
The day has arrived – your bra is ready! This appointment will be relatively quick. Your bra maker will have you try on the bra one last time to ensure she’s made the proper adjustments from the last fitting. She’ll then wrap it for you and it is yours to take home – if you can bring yourself to take it off!
Your bra maker will be happy to discuss another order, a different style, or any other needs you may have with you at this meeting, too.
